Working to improve the resiliency of agriculture

A recent report from RFI on the environmental impacts of US pork production finds that the growth in US pork production is outpacing the environmental impacts associated with the industry. Pork production in 2015 is 83.6% greater than it was in 1960, which outpaced the growth in energy use (+70.6%), greenhouse gas emissions (+69.5%), and water use (+37.4%). Thanks to improvements in crop yields, improved feed conversation and other swine-related advancements, the total land footprint of the US swine industry has actually shrunk, despite producing nearly twice as much pork. The efficiency of US pork production has not always improved, but over time the industry has shown improvements across a suite of environmental impacts.
